Margaret Groening (1919-2013) A few weeks ago Margaret Groening, the 94 year old mother of Simpson’s creator Matt Groening and inspiration for the character Marge Simpson, passed away in her sleep. Her obituary is filled with character names from the Simpson universe. Her maiden name was Wiggum. She had a husband named Homer. Of her children, 2 were named Lisa & Maggie. Only Bart –an anagram for “Brat” –wasn’t named after one of the Groenings.
